High-end laser welding technology with GEFASOFT

LASER WELDING OF PLASTICS FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

As an experienced machine builder, GEFASOFT supports customers in the integration and automation of precision technology into their production.

This includes our expertise in building machines for laser welding of plastics. This has become an established joining process for high-quality and tight connections in industrial manufacturing, in which a transparent and an absorbing joining partner are connected together.

Based on this, GEFASOFT develops software- and image-supported automatable laser welding systems for plastics – tailored to your components, materials, and production requirements.

And we go one step further: With A2A® we have developed our own patented laser welding process that enables the safe and reproducible connection of two laser-absorbing joining partners.

OUR PROCESSES IN
LASER WELDING OF PLASTIC

TRANSMISSION
WELDING

In transmission welding, the laser beam is guided through a transparent joining partner and specifically converted in the absorbing material. The resulting heat causes local melting of the joining zone, creating a cohesive and tight connection.

The process is characterized by contactless energy input and is particularly suitable for sensitive components as well as applications with high requirements for cleanliness and process stability.

Processes Used:

  • Quasi-simultaneous welding (the most modern process) – rapid, multiple traversing of the contour for homogeneous temperature distribution
  • Mask welding – surface irradiation through defined beam guidance
  • Simultaneous welding – simultaneous irradiation of the entire joining contour
  • Contour welding – traversing the weld seam along a defined geometry

Advantages of Transmission Welding:

  • Particle-free and clean joining process
  • High process reliability and reproducibility
  • Low thermal stress on components
  • Tight and strong weld connections
  • Ideal for automated series production

A2A®
ABSORBENT TO ABSORBENT

With A2A® plastic welding, GEFASOFT has a proprietary developed and patented laser welding process that sets new standards in the joining of plastics. In contrast to classic transmission welding, two laser-absorbing joining partners are directly connected to each other – without the need for a transparent joining partner.

This opens up completely new possibilities in component design as well as in the selection of suitable materials and application areas.

Advantages over Classic Transmission Welding:

  • Connection of two laser-absorbing plastics
  • No adhesive or screwing process necessary
  • No transparent joining partner necessary
  • Targeted energy input into the joining zone
