High-end laser cleaning system developed by GEFASOFT
A laser cleaning system only truly pays off when it doesn’t stop at every variant change.
That’s exactly where GEFASOFT comes in: Our system recognizes each part independently, measures its position in the processing space, and cleans or structures precisely the surfaces that need to be treated. Regardless of geometry, model, or series variant.
Without changeover. Without new fixtures. Without chemicals.

THE PROBLEM:
EVERY VARIANT COSTS CHANGEOVER TIME
In industrial manufacturing, part geometry determines effort, cost, and complexity. Conventional surface processes—blasting, wet chemical cleaning, mechanical brushing—require new fixtures, extensive changeovers, or even a second system for each variant.
It becomes particularly critical when surfaces are directly adjacent: one must be treated, the other must not be touched under any circumstances. For mechanical processes, this is a nightmare; for abrasive processes, it is simply unmanageable.
OUR SOLUTION
Our industrial laser cleaning combines high-power laser, axis system, and image processing in a common coordinate system.
The process:
Part identification via code scan
The operator loads the part. The system then recognizes the part type, part geometry, and critical areas that must be excluded via the product DMC.
Automatic machine alignment
Axes, laser, and cameras align themselves independently and product-specifically. The system determines the optimal working position without manual intervention—completely replacing conventional changeover.
Fine adjustment via image processing
The camera recognizes part-specific features and corrects the working plane. Only then does the laser process start—with coordinates calculated for exactly this part at exactly this position.
Selective 3D laser cleaning and structuring
Cleaning and structuring in one process, fully three-dimensional and selective. While the relevant surfaces are being processed, the system specifically excludes critical part areas—even with complex geometries and closely adjacent surfaces.
Calibration as a quality feature
An automatic calibration sequence brings all subsystems together in a common coordinate system. This keeps axes, laser, and cameras precisely aligned throughout the entire service life, so that the result is reproducibly documentable.
YOUR ADVANTAGES IN OPERATION
- No changeover for variant changes, provided the workpiece fixture remains the same—the system adapts to the part, not the other way around.
- Selective processing—critical surfaces remain guaranteed untouched.
- 2 in 1—cleaning and surface structuring in one process step, optionally supplemented by laser marking.
- Small footprint—compact design for tight production layouts.
- Parallel loading during process—higher output without additional cycle time.
- Platform instead of single solution—flexibly adaptable for new products and additional laser applications.
- Laser safety class 1 (system)—safe operation without extensive protective measures in the facility.
Made in Germany—development, construction, and service from Regensburg.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Laser cleaning is increasingly replacing wet chemical and abrasive processes—especially where reproducibility and selectivity matter:
- Pre-treatment before bonding: defined surface structure for uniform adhesion and stable bond strength.
- Welding preparation: oil-, grease-, and oxide-free joints for pore-free seams.
- Coating pre-treatment: clean, activated surface before painting or functional coating.
- Decoating and paint removal: controlled, layer-by-layer removal without substrate damage.
- Contact surfaces in electromobility: selective exposure of contacts on rotors, stators, and housings.
- Tool and mold cleaning: removal of release agent and process residues without abrasive media carryover.
WHY GEFASOFT?
A handheld laser cleans. A production line needs more: repeatability, documentation, connectivity. GEFASOFT has been building special-purpose machines with industrial image processing for decades—the laser source is just one component among many.
What you get in addition to the machine:
- Consulting on laser- and process-appropriate product design
- Feasibility studies and sample part trials before investment
- Process validation and optimization
- MES integration and data management including traceability
- modular design, prepared for robot handling and line integration

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE LASER CLEANING SYSTEM
Technology and Safety
How does laser cleaning work technically?
Short, high-frequency laser pulses strike the surface. The top layer—oil, oxide, paint, release agent—absorbs the energy and is abruptly vaporized or blasted off (ablation), while the underlying base material remains virtually unaffected. The removed material is directly extracted.
How does the system differ from a handheld laser device?
A handheld device is operator-dependent and therefore does not deliver reproducible results. Our system, on the other hand, works with defined part positioning, camera-guided positioning, and documented parameters—the prerequisite for series production and quality verification.
Does the system require a separate laser safety area?
No, because as a laser class 1 system, the laser is fully enclosed and can be operated in production without a separate safety area.
Material and Project Implementation
Which materials can be processed?
Primarily metals such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper are suitable. Whether your specific material and contamination are suitable is most reliably determined on an actual sample part.
Can other part sizes also be processed?
The series system is designed for parts up to 200 × 200 × 500 mm. Since this is a platform, we adapt workspace, laser power, and handling to your requirements.
How long does a project take from inquiry to commissioning?
That depends on the degree of automation. The starting point is always the same: sample part, feasibility trial, process parameters—only then follows the system concept.
